Hope Savchenko first appeared in PACE


Hope Savchenko for the first time participates in the work of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The delegate of the Ukrainian Parliament in PACE, it was still being under investigation in Russia.

In precedes the start of work, the Chairman of PACE Pedro Agramunt welcomed Savchenko in the hall. He said that the release, Gennady Afanasyev and Yuri Soloshenko prove that “democracy can contribute to the solution of problems.”

Savchenko made a short remarks in which urged to exert pressure on Russia to release Ukrainian prisoners in Russia. “Russia wanted me for 22 years, but we wanted to see me before and we have done everything, I’m glad to be among you,” — said Savchenko. She also said that the Russian delegation could not participate in PACE, as the country does not respect the rights of other members.

“I do not want anyone such a neighbor as Russia, countries that had [a neighbor], you know that,” Savchenko finished my short speech.

To participate in the plenary session Savchenko held a separate meeting with Agramunt. “Savchenko meeting with the PACE President. Hope asks for help to pull our prisoners from Russia”, — wrote the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Dmitry Kuleba in Twitter.

After a brief speech Savchenko PACE delegate expressed joy that she was released and also talked about the need for the release of political prisoners in all countries of the Council of Europe. So the Deputy of the Italian Parliament Michele Nicoletti stated the need for the release of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.

With the participation Savchenko in PACE will host two events. On Monday afternoon, will be held “exchange of views” with Hope Savchenko. On Tuesday along with her lawyer Ilya Novikov, she will take part in the round table entitled “Meeting with Nadezhda Savchenko: Ukrainian prisoners in Russia.”

In addition to commenting on the situation in Russia will say the Deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament and a representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev. On Thursday, he will participate in hearings on human rights violations on the Ukrainian territories that are not under kontrolem the Ukrainian authorities, as stated in the schedule of the session.

The Russian delegation in the PACE does not participate.
