The German Minister of defense has estimated the likelihood of conflict in the Baltic

The Minister of defence of Germany Ursula von der Leinen, Bild am Sonntag in an interview with Bild am Sonntag gave his assessment of the probability of military conflict in the Baltic. The Minister also urged Russia and NATO to report on the number and movements of his troops and stated that “for dialogue we need at least two.”

“I can’t imagine that someone can find the positive side to attack NATO, the most powerful military Alliance in the world,” the head of the Ministry of defense of Germany (quoted by Unternehmen-Heute.de).

As noted Unternehmen-Heute, in an interview with the Minister of defence also indirectly responded to the words of the foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who on June 18 criticized organized by the NATO Eastern Europe military exercises, and called on people not to aggravate the situation, “saber rattling and battle cry” and to find ways for dialogue with Russia.

“It would be a useful step if Russia and NATO in the framework of the OSCE disclosed information on the number and movements of his troops. From NATO, which is exclusively a defensive Alliance, the proposal was made long ago,” — said the Minister of defence.

According to von der Leinen, the allies could count on Germany. “Dialogue and the outstretched hand is very important, but that’s why we can’t distort the causal connections,” she said. “Of course, we need better relations with Russia”, — said the Minister. However, according to her, Russia should follow international norms. “To communicate we need at least two,” said she.
