Ankara has refused to pay compensation for the downed su-24

The Turkish authorities are not going to pay Russia compensation for the downed su-24. As stated by the Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, we are talking only about the apology to Moscow, reports NTV.

“We just expressed Russia regrets in connection with the incident,” the Prime Minister said after a speech to the deputies of the Turkish Parliament.

In a speech before Parliament Yildirim said about the “thaw” in relations between Moscow and Ankara. “Indirect contact between the two leaders, finally gave the result,” said Yildirim. We can say that we are at the beginning of the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Russia.

Yesterday in an interview with TV channel TRT Binali Yildirim stated that Turkey is ready to pay Russia compensation for the downed plane. He said that on 29 or 30 June to be held a telephone conversation between the presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, which will be discussed the settlement of bilateral relations.

On Monday, the Kremlin announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized for the downed plane. “I want to Express my sympathy and deep condolences to the bereaved family of the Russian pilot and say excuse me,” — said in the letter.

Later, Erdogan expressed the view that relations between the two countries will recover quickly. “I think we quickly normalize our relations with Russia and put an end to the current situation, which is disadvantageous to both sides,” he said.

Relations between Moscow and Ankara deteriorated after 24 November, the Turkish fighter jet shot down a Russian su-24 bomber which took part in operations in Syria. The Turkish authorities claimed that the aircraft violated the country’s airspace, but Moscow denied it. The plane crashed on Syrian territory. The commander of the crew was shot from the ground, the Navigator was able to save. During the rescue operation killed one Russian soldier.
