Shoigu dismissed the commander of the Baltic fleet for shortcomings in combat training


Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has suspended from duty the commander of the Baltic fleet Viktor Kravchuk’s chief of staff Sergei Popov. This is stated in the press release of the Ministry of defence, reports TASS.

Commander, chief of staff and other officers of the fleet was removed for “serious shortcomings in combat training, as well as the distortion in the reports of the real state of Affairs”. Sergei Shoigu and the Collegium of the Ministry of defense gave their activities a strong and principled assessment. They made “serious omissions in the service”, — stressed in the Department. The military has provided for removal from posts and dismissal from military service.

In recent months, in the Baltic sea, there have been several incidents involving Russian military aircraft and ships on the one hand and of American technology on the other. In April, the su-24 Russian space forces approached the American destroyer “Donald cook”. In the same month, the us military said that a Russian su-27 made a dangerous maneuver near the reconnaissance aircraft of the U.S. air force. In addition, it was reported intercepting Russian su-27 U.S. spy plane RC-135.

The US and the Nordic countries in may issued a joint statement in which expressed concern about the growing military presence of Russia in the Baltic sea area. The defense Ministry has repeatedly stated that Russian military action in full accordance with international regulations.
