The economic sanctions imposed against Turkey in November 2015 after the destruction of its military Russian bomber su-24 will be lifted in stages in order not to harm domestic companies, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting of the Russian government. “We will act step by step. Here it is necessary, on the one hand, to lift the restrictions with the improvement of General political background, but certainly not to the detriment of Russian producers and those partners that already occupy the released niche in the Russian market”, — said the Prime Minister.
The head of the government pointed to the need to “carefully consider” the issues related to the abolition of the food embargo and other restrictions, and explained that waiting for the members of the government proposals on these issues.
29 Jun 2016 President Vladimir Putin after a telephone conversation with Turkish leader Recep Erdogan announced the imminent lifting of restrictions on travel of Russian tourists on resorts of Turkey and the lifting of the ban on Charter flights.
“Administrative restrictions we remove. Erdogan assured me that they will do all they can to ensure the safety of our citizens,” the President said, instructing the government to start talks on resumption of cooperation with Turkey, including in the tourism sector.
In the government meeting on Thursday, Dmitry Medvedev said that after the recent terrorist attack at the airport in Istanbul the Turkish authorities must provide additional guarantees of security of Russian citizens.
“It is very important to obtain from the Turkish authorities additional assurances to take effective measures to ensure the safety of our campers, especially considering the recent tragic events in Istanbul,” — said Medvedev.
