Russia offered NATO to ensure the safety of flights over the Baltic sea


The Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu, following instructions of President Vladimir Putin instructed to prepare proposals “to develop a system of confidence-building measures that increase the safety of flights over the Baltic sea”, according to the Agency

In this regard, developed a number of organizational and technical measures, including the use of aircraft of Russian air force “transponders” that will allow the control services air traffic control in the Baltic region to identify Russian planes over the Baltic sea.

“In the event response readiness of NATO countries to the operations of its aircraft with “transponders” near the Russian border, the specialists of the Ministry of defense of Russia can take part in a detailed discussion of this issue at the expert level”, — stated in the message of the Ministry.

The defense Ministry also stresses that it is considering the inclusion of safety over the Baltic sea in the agenda of the Council Russia-NATO at the level of permanent representatives. The Board is scheduled for July 13.
