Putin signed a law banning GMOs


Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the cultivation and breeding in Russia genetically modified plants and animals. The corresponding document was published on the official portal of legal information.

The document, in particular, prohibits the import into the territory of Russia and to grow plants and animals, the genetic program is changed using genetic engineering techniques, with the exception of cases when this is done during expretise and scientific research.

According to the law, importers of GMO products will be required to pass the registration procedure.

The document also envisages administrative liability for using GMO with impaired razreshennykh terms of use. As punishment, the document sets fines of from 10 to 50 thousand rubles for officials and from 100 thousand to 500 thousand rubles for legal entities.

The Federation Council approved a law banning GMOs on June 29. It shall enter into force on 4 July, the day of its official opublikowany.
