The opposition in Abkhazia has forced the interior Minister to write a letter of resignation


The President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba signed a decree on dismissal from the post of interior Minister Leonid Dzapshba, reports local Agency “Apsnypress”.

“To dismiss the Minister of internal Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Leonid Dzapshba from duty during public Prosecutor’s check”, — stated in the decree of the President, which leads the Agency.

Acting head of the interior Ministry of the Republic appointed the first Deputy Minister of internal Affairs Boris Abitov.

The resignation of Dzapshba demanded the opposition “in connection with deterioration of a criminogenic situation”. Seeking the resignation of the Minister, the opposition held a rally near the interior Ministry earlier in the day. In the course of it they tore down the gate leading into the courtyard of the Ministry. The protesters also pelted stones at law enforcement officers and broke into the territory of the Department.

Late in the evening, wrote “Interfax”, the protesters threw a Molotov cocktail into the building of the interior Ministry. Because of this, the visor structure caught fire. Agency staff were able to extinguish the fire.

Initially, the opposition gathered at the local Philharmonic society at the Congress of the political party “amtsakhara”. They were not satisfied with the preparation of the referendum on early elections of the President of the Republic, which was scheduled for July 10. On the ballot submitted to the question: “do you Consider necessary carrying out of early election of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia?”

After that, the participants of the Congress put forward the President of seven demands, among which was including to give the opposition airtime, send in the resignation of the Minister of internal Affairs, allowed to vote in the referendum for absentee ballots and expired passports, and to open polling stations in Russia.
