Teacher of the branch of the Military Academy of the strategic Missile forces (RVSN) Colonel Alexey Solodovnikov told RIA Novosti about the development in Russia of a hypersonic strategic bombers that can deliver nuclear strikes from space. According to him, the prototype can be created by 2020.
“The idea is this: with conventional airfields, it will take off to patrol the air space, team — space performs the task of strikes, including nuclear weapons, and returned back to their base. This is a strategic aircraft”, — said Solodovnikov.
According to the Lieutenant Colonel, the bomber will be able 1-2 hours to reach any point of the planet through space. To its development plan to attract TSAGI (Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute). Now experts determine the characteristics of the aircraft. “I think that the starting weight will be 20-25 tons, so it was a shock. It is planned that there will be a hypersonic missile mode”, — said Solodovnikov.
The teacher is the developer of the engine for future aircraft. “When you are happy with the scheme, we will do the engine itself. For the second year in 2018, will begin the iron. Maybe I’m in a hurry, and there will be some issues, but by 2020 “piece of iron” should be working”, — said Solodovnikov. According to him, the engine will be “dual”.
“It [the engine] will be able to work in the atmosphere, and space to switch to flight mode without air, and all this on a single installation,” explained the teacher. He stressed that at the moment these engines in Russia.
The commander of RVSN Colonel General Sergey Karakayev also commented on the development of the engine. “This know-how allowed us to solve the problem of creating a combined power plant of the aircraft to transfer engine with the air mode when flying in the atmosphere on a rocket in outer space,” he said. Project engine will present in a number of promising developments on the forum “Army-2016”.
In April last year, at the time Deputy commander of the aerospace defense air defense major General Kirill Makarov announced that Russia is developing a response to the spaceplane bomber of the United States. We are talking about unmanned spaceplane, the X-37, Boeing has designed in the interests of the U.S. Department of defense.
