An armed group in Yerevan, release all hostages

According to the publication, PanArmenian, in the afternoon of 23 July, the extremists first released of two young police officers being held hostage, and then two high-ranking officials, including the Deputy head of the Armenian police major-General Vardan Yeghiazaryan.

According to the newspaper the leader of the group “Sasna tsrer” (“the Violent of Sasun”) Varuzhan Avetisyan agreed to release the hostages in exchange for a promise to create in the captured police station a permanent point of contact with the press. In this case from the police and NSS has demanded unhindered to allow any journalists into the building.

Branch patrol in Yerevan was captured on the morning of 17 July, was killed by a police officer. Initially, the attackers demanded the release from prison of a party to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh Zhirayr Sefilyan, a suspect in the illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Later it became known that they also want the resignation of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
