The Minister of sport Vitaly Mutko said that the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which defined the admission criteria for the Russian athletes at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, objective. In addition, the Minister thanked the Committee for “made in the interests of global sports’ decision.
“The decision of the IOC, was balanced and, in this case, based on the report of the independent Commission WADA, it is an objective adopted in the interests of global sports and unity of the Olympic family. We are grateful to the IOC for this decision”, — said Mutko Agency “R-Sport”.
According to Mutko, the majority of athletes — members of the Olympic team will be able to fulfill demanding criteria established of the IOC. “Regarding the criteria that brought the national team of Russia on the eve of the Olympic games, they are, of course, very hard. This is a particular challenge for our team, but am absolutely sure that most of the Russian team will confirm these criteria”, — said the Minister on air of TV channel “Russia-24” (quoted by “Interfax”).
However, he expects that most of the international federations confirmed the right of Russian athletes to compete at the Olympics. Mutko also vowed that the Ministry of sports of Russia will take the necessary measures to persons from the report of the independent Commission of the world anti-doping Agency (WADA) whose guilt is proven.
The head of sport also believes that Russian national team on forces adequately to act on the Olympic games in Brazil.
Sunday, 24 July, took place the meeting of the IOC Executive Board, which decided the question of the admission of the Russian team at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The IOC Executive Board decided that the decision on admission to the Russian Olympics each athlete will adopt the relevant international Federation.
