US Ambassador to Ukraine has accused Russia of lying about the “invasion of Crimea”

Washington has no data to substantiate the claims of Russia on the penetration of the Crimea Ukrainian saboteurs, said the US Ambassador in Kiev Jeffrey Payette. “The US government had not seen any evidence of Russian accusations of “invasion of the Crimea”, which confidently denies Ukraine”, — wrote the diplomat in Twitter.

Payette called false Russian claims that, in his opinion, intended to distract attention from Moscow’s actions. “This is not the first false accusation of Ukraine, expressed to divert attention from their own illegal actions,” — said the Ambassador.

The diplomat reminded that the US continues to consider the Crimea part of Ukraine, Washington condemns “the Russian occupation of Crimea” and demands its immediate cessation. Payette added that the sanctions imposed against Russia after the annexation of Crimea will remain in force until the Peninsula will not be returned to Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the FSB announced the discovery in the Crimea of the Ukrainian group of saboteurs in military intelligence, during the arrest which killed the employee of intelligence service and member of the defense Ministry. According to the FSB, it managed to prevent the preparation of terrorist attacks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called actions of the Ukrainian side “stupid and pointless” campaign. He stated that the penetration of Ukrainian saboteurs to Crimea undermines the peace process, “the Kiev authorities are not looking for a way to solve problems in negotiations, and transferred to the terror.”

“Most importantly, those who support the current Kiev authorities must define what they want: they want their clients and then engage in provocations of this kind, or they want a real peace settlement,” — said the head of state.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has called the accusations of Putin in the use of terrorist methods “fantasies”. In the Main intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian defense Ministry also denied the accusations, calling the reports of saboteurs “provocation.”

The official U.S. state Department spokesman Elizabeth Trudeau said that the office was familiar with reports of the situation in Crimea and called on the parties to dialogue. “We’ve seen these reports. We recommend that you seek detailed information from the government of Ukraine”, — she said.

The head of the Crimea Sergey Aksenov in an interview with TV channel “Russia 24” stated that, in his opinion, the Ukrainian authorities would not go to such actions without the consent of Washington. “It’s not their own actions and the promises behind them looms the US state Department, because officials of Ukraine of the spirit would not be enough for such events”, — said Aksenov.
