The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Vice-President of the USA Joe Biden held a telephone conversation, during which discussed the tension in the Crimean Peninsula,” reads the message on the White house website.
Biden “urged President Poroshenko to do everything in his power to avoid escalation of tension.” He also noted that the U.S. “called for the same and the Russian side”.
“Both leaders reiterated their strong support for political and diplomatic solutions to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, especially with full implementation of the Minsk agreements”, — stated in the message.
In addition, Biden and Poroshenko discussed the recent progress in the implementation of IMF conditions for the allocation of a new tranche of financial assistance and agreed to the importance of the recent efforts of Ukraine to continue the critical anti-corruption reforms”.
Thursday after the FSB announced the arrest of a “group of saboteurs” in the Crimea, Poroshenko has instructed the Ukrainian foreign Ministry to request a conversation, particularly with the Vice-President of the USA Joseph Biden and the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
