The government changed the indexation of pensions paid


The government replaced the second indexation of pensions this year, a one-time payment in the amount of 5 thousand rubles in January 2017. This was announced by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting devoted to this issue.

“The results of today’s discussion, I think the right to carry out indexing in the form of a lump-sum cash payment, defined in amount of 5 thousand rubles”, — said the Prime Minister (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).

According to Medvedev, the payment will require more than 200 billion rubles. He also stressed that the February indexation of pensions in 2017 will be fully implemented at the level of inflation, it will take more than 270 billion rubles.

In 2015, the government suspended the application norms of the law providing for the indexation of pensions to inflation for the previous year. As a result, in February 2016, pensions were increased by 12.9% and only 4%. Later, the head of government called a lower indexation of pensions “temporary measure” and promised to revert to the former procedure in the next year.

Later, however, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets reported that the government is discussing the possibility of replacing additional indexation of pensions to lump-sum payment, although a priority is considered “full indexing”.

Earlier in the second indexation of pensions questioned former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin. According to him, in conditions of low oil prices, the government is simply nowhere to take the necessary indexing tools.

“In 2016, the indexation, if it was on actual inflation at 12%, would require approximately 660 billion RUB of additional expenses from the budget. Where to get them? To understand the scale of these issues, we have all higher education is worth 600 billion rubles, the Federal part of the health care costs of 300 billion rubles,” said Kudrin, speaking at the Gaidar forum.
