Poroshenko announced a complete ceasefire in the Donbass on September 1

During a meeting with students and professors of the National technical University of Ukraine President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Donbass entered into the silence mode is maintained for 12 hours, UNIAN reports.

OSCE special representative Marty Sajdik noted that “this is a joint initiative of all participants of the contact group.”

Plenipotentiary representative of Russia in the contact group Boris Gryzlov said that Moscow stands for a ceasefire in the Donbass by September 1. Yesterday, August 31, Poroshenko said that he expects the decision of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the initiative of the ceasefire, which he called Ukrainian. August 26, three days ago, on my instructions, my representatives in the Trilateral contact group came out with the initiative from September 1 to declare a cease-fire. Today our partners from France and Germany supported the initiative of Ukraine, and now everyone is waiting for a response from one person, Putin, who is responsible for the aggression”, — Poroshenko said.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that the conflict in the Donbass is an internal affair of Ukraine, which Kiev must settle in contact with representatives of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk people’s Republic. The Kremlin categorically denies Russian military involvement in the events in Eastern Ukraine.

After the statement Poroshenko spoke to the press-Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov. He said that Moscow welcomes the agreement on the ceasefire and the agreement reached by the Contact group”. “We hope that the conscientious performance of this agreement by all parties to the conflict, namely, Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk will move the process of implementation of the Minsk package of measures,” — said Peskov.
