Discussed the issue of a peace Treaty, which Russia and Japan never signed after world war II. This issue is one of the main foreign policy goals of the Japanese Prime Minister. After a visit to Sochi, he said that he had offered Putin a new approach to solving the problem, but neither he nor the Russian leader later clarified, what it is. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov on Friday said the expected decision of the question at this meeting is not necessary.
Speaking about the Kuril Islands, Lavrov said that Japan for the first time expressed readiness for joint economic activities on the Kuril Islands. According to him, Russia has long offered Japanese colleagues to deal with this problem. “Some time ago the Cabinet of Ministers attitude was cautious. Now we sense the readiness of Japanese partners to discuss issues related to joint economic activity on the Islands, and not only related to joint economic activities, but also issues relating to exchanges between people,” — said the Minister.
Lavrov also confirmed that at the end of the year will be Putin’s visit to Japan, which will continue the discussion of joint projects that the country can implement. According to the Japanese NHK, the visit will take place on December 15, Abe will Putin in his native Yamaguchi Prefecture.
