The leader of the Philippines expressed regret at the statement addressed to Obama

The President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte, who called the leader of the USA Barack Obama “a son of a bitch”, expressed regret about his statement. Statement on behalf of the Philippine President on Tuesday read out by his representative, reports the Associated Press.

In a statement, Duterte says that his “rude comment” in response to specific questions the reporter “concern and disappointment”. “We also regret that it was the attack on the US President,” said Duterte.

On the eve before departure Duterte attend the ASEAN summit in Laos, journalists asked him to comment on reports about Obama’s plans to raise on a scheduled bilateral meeting of leaders of the subject of extrajudicial executions in the Philippines.

Duterte replied that he was the President of a sovereign state, which “has long ceased to be a colony,” and “it has no master, except the Filipino people.” In this Duterte added: “Putang ina, I will curse you on this forum”. From the Tagalog phrase “putang ina” means “son of a bitch”.

Later, the representative of the national security Council at the White house, Ned Price, said that Obama canceled a planned meeting with Duterte after the insult in his address. According to price, instead of meeting with Philippine counterpart Obama will meet September 6 with South Korean President Park Geun-Hye.
