The Central election Commission of Uzbekistan at the meeting on Friday adopted a decision on holding elections of the President of the Republic on 4 December 2016 and the beginning of the campaign, reported the press service of the CEC of Uzbekistan.
President of Uzbekistan vacant after the death of the leader of the Republic Islam Karimov, which was officially announced exactly one week ago, on 2 September. Karimov suffered a stroke and died from cardiac arrest, said doctors.
According to the Uzbek Constitution, if the President is the head of state cannot perform his duties, a new election for President shall be held within three months.
While the duties of the President shall perform the President of the Senate. In Uzbekistan, this post takes Nigmatulla Yuldashev, who CA told told “RIA Novosti” the representative of Parliament, recused himself.
Acting President of Uzbekistan was appointed Shavkat Mirziyaev, since 2003 holding a post of the Prime Minister. After the death of Karimov, he headed the Commission on organization of funeral of the President and his experts have called the most likely successor to Karimov.
