Poroshenko instructed to file a lawsuit about the violation by Russia of the UN Convention

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has instructed the foreign Ministry to file an international lawsuit against Russia in connection with the violation of the UN Convention on law of the sea. This was reported by his press Secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko on Twitter.

“President instructed the foreign Ministry to initiate arbitration proceedings against Russia for violations of the UN Convention on the law of the sea”, — he wrote.

On the eve of 14 September, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin announced the filing of a lawsuit this week. He told the ICTV channel that the lawsuit will be made claims to Russia regarding the use of marine space and environmental security. “This is a very large-scale action” — said Klimkin. According to him, Kiev will get a compensation (the amount the Minister did not specify).

About the preparations for the filing of a new lawsuit against Russia in the international court of justice in the Hague in late August, said the Minister of justice of Ukraine Pavel Petrenko.

Before the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will use “all the tools of international law for opposing the protection of his interests.”
