“The message of Icelandic pilots and diplomats about the alleged threat rapprochement of the Russian long-range aircraft with a civil airliner over the waters of the Norwegian sea is no more than a figment of their personal imagination”, — said Konashenkov.
According to him, on 22 September, Russian strategic bombers Tu-160 carried out tasks according to plan of air patrol over the North-Eastern part of the Atlantic ocean and were flying enabled transponders at a considerable distance from civilian aircraft and without crossing the air routes, said the Ministry of defence.
Konashenkov said that the route of the Tu-160 was held over the water area of the Barents and Norwegian seas in strict accordance with international rules of using airspace.” On several sections of the route bombardirovschiki was accompanied by fighters of the air forces of NATO countries.
