Lavrov and Kerry discussed the situation around Aleppo


The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with his us counterpart John Kerry, said in a message posted on the official website of the Russian foreign Ministry in Facebook.

The conversation took place on 1 October at the initiative of the American side. The parties continued to discuss the situation in Syria, in particular, was considered the measures that can be taken to normalize the situation around Aleppo, where is not respected the ceasefire.

Lavrov said that he considers unacceptable the attempts of the so-called “moderate” opposition lenient towards the group “Jabhat Fatah al-sham” (the former Jabhat al-Nusra, as terrorist and banned in Russia).

“Many groups “moderate” Syrian opposition refuse to dissociate themselves from the terrorists of “Jabhat EN-Nusra”, which the truce does not apply”, — stated in the message.

On the eve of the foreign Ministers of the two countries also held a telephone conversation during which they also discussed the situation around Aleppo. Then the message of the foreign Ministry noted that Moscow is ready to consider additional possibilities for the normalization of the situation in the region. Lavrov also said that Moscow continues to be open to dialogue with Washington on all issues of settlement of the Syrian conflict.

After the telephone conversation, the U.S. state Department spokesman mark Toner said that the United States also leaves the door open for further contacts with Russia on Syria. However, the state Department said that the U.S. is “on the verge” of breakup bilateral contacts with Russia on Syria because I do not see from Moscow the desired action.
