The former head of Komi Torlopov became a defendant in the “case Gayzer”

The investigation has charged the former head of the Komi Republic and former Senator from the region Vladimir Torlopov charged with forming a criminal community and fraud committed in especially large size the organised criminal group with use of his official position (part 3 of article 210 and part 4 of article 159 of the criminal code), reported on the website of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR).

Torlopov, as stated in the message of the RCDS, has created and headed a criminal community together with his former Deputy and successor as head of the Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gaiser and other defendants in the case. According to investigators, the actions of Torlopova the state suffered damage amounting to at least 2.5 billion rubles.

The investigation intends to ask the court to send the 66-year-old Torlopova under house arrest, said the TFR.

Vladimir Torlopov was the head of the Komi Republic for eight years — from late 2001 to early 2010. In the spring of 2010 Torlopov became a member of the Federation Council, where he represented the government of the Komi Republic. In September 2016 Torlopova in the upper house of the Russian Parliament was replaced by Dmitry Shatohin.

At the head of the Komi Republic Torlopova in 2010, was replaced by Vyacheslav Gaizer. In the fall of 2015, he was arrested and impeached in connection with loss of trust of the President. Gaiser was charged under four articles of the Criminal code — the establishment of a criminal Association, receiving a bribe in especially large size, legalization of proceeds of crime, and fraud (article 210, 290, 174.1 and 159 of the criminal code)

All defendants in the so-called case of “Gayzer” are 16 people. In addition to the Gayzer is his former Deputy Alexey Chernov and former adviser to Vladimir Torlopova at the head of Komi Alexander Zarubin.
