The former head of the foreign intelligence service Mikhail Fradkov will become Chairman of the Board of Directors of the concern “Almaz Antey”, will also head the Russian Institute for strategic studies. As reported TASS, the decision was taken at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin and Fradkov and the head of Rostec Sergei Chemezov.
Previously, the newspaper “Vedomosti” reported that Fradkov is unlikely to head the Board of Russian Railways. According to sources close to the management of Russian Railways and the Russian export centre, the delay in the appointment of Fradkov was due to the fact that the former head of the SVR is under sanctions. “RZD fears that if he becomes Chairman of the Board, the holders of its Eurobonds would require early repayment on the securities,” wrote the publication. According to one of interlocutors of the newspaper, “Railways have no money”.
The representative of Rostec has not yet responded to the request . In the Railways also declined to comment. The representative of the Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, who is now Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways, has not yet responded to the request.
Vladimir Putin sent Fradkov released from the post of Director of the SVR on September 22 in connection with retirement. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov then said that Putin suggested Fradkov to head the Board of Directors of Russian Railways. A Kremlin spokesman then said that Fradkov’s candidacy will be put forward “soon”.
