Vice President of Interpol for the first time elected a Russian citizen


Major General of the Russian police Alexander Prokopchuk elected Vice-President of Interpol. This is stated in the official Twitter of the organization.

The Assembly of the Interpol takes place on the Indonesian island of Bali. A source in the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti that the candidate Prokopchuk, who heads the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Russia, voted by 127 delegates with ten against and eight abstentions.

“The citizen of the Russian Federation not only took the post of Vice-President from Europe for the first time since the country’s accession to Interpol more than a quarter century ago, but was elected 127 votes for and ten against, and eight abstentions” — said the Agency interlocutor.

The Interpol General Assembly chose new leadership organization, the President of Interpol was the Deputy Minister of public security of China Meng Hongwei, which was succeeded by Mireille Ballestrazzi.
