Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is ready to wait until our Western partners recognize that Crimea is part of Russia. He stated this in an interview with The Associated Press.
Peskov said that Russia is “not going to argue about Crimea”. Asked how this issue will be considered in the administration of the elected President of the USA of Donald trump, Peskov said Moscow understands that the solution to this problem may take time.
“We understand it will take time for our partners in Europe, for our partners in USA to understand it. We are patient enough to wait until this understanding happens here in Washington, in the United States, in Europe,” — said Peskov.
Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum on March 16, 2014, when 95% of the population of the Peninsula voted for his accession. Western countries, including the United States, called the annexation of Crimea “annexation”.
During the election campaign, trump has promised to consider the question of recognition of the annexation of Crimea to Russia, if elected. “We look at this. Yes, we will consider,” said trump, however, refused to give details. He expressed the opinion that the people of Crimea “would prefer to be with Russia, but not where he was before.” A few days later, trump warned that the attempt by the US force to return the Peninsula to Ukraine could lead to the outbreak of world war III.
Speaking about attempts to improve relations between Moscow and Washington, Peskov expressed the opinion that the trump can convince NATO to slow the extension or reduce the number of troops on the border with Russia.
During the election campaign trump has repeatedly criticized the Northern Alliance. He said that the unit was created to counter the Soviet Union, which no longer exists. In April, trump said that he would not worry or to worry if NATO will disintegrate.
