At a meeting with journalists of the newspaper The New York Times, trump said that he had spoken to Putin after winning the election, but the talks failed. He said that it would be “great” if he and Putin get along, but objected to call any warming of relations “reset”, writes NYT.
“I would not use this term after what happened,” said trump, referring to the failed attempt of his rival in the election of the democratic candidate Hillary Clinton — to improve relations between the two countries.
During his election campaign, trump has repeatedly stated that all attempts by Clinton to “reset” Russian-American relations have failed. Because of the mistakes of the Clinton and the White house, Washington’s relations with Moscow has deteriorated even further, has pointed out, trump.
Telephone conversation, Putin and trump after winning the last election in USA took place on November 14. As reported the press service of the Kremlin, during conversation colleagues “agree on the assessment of the current extremely poor state of Russian-American relations” and agreed to actively work together to improve them.
Three days later, incumbent President Barack Obama warned trump from the conclusion of the “easy deals” with Russia, although he admitted that the new US President will not exactly follow the current approach in Washington. “I hope he will not just stick to “real politics” and to make deals with Russia, despite their convenience, if they hurt people,” said Obama.
Putin, commenting on the election trump confirmed his intention to normalize relations with the United States, however, indicated that, between pre-election rhetoric and real politics “a big difference”.
