The energy Ministry praised the recent losses of Ukraine from buying gas in Europe

Only in the second half of the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” overpaid European intermediaries for purchased at them the Russian gas more than $70 million, said the Minister of energy of Russia Alexander Novak. According to him, buying gas directly from Gazprom, the Ukrainian side could save $20-30 per thousand cubic meters.

“The price of Russian gas generated under the contract and according to the formula below, starting from the second half of 2016. As you know, “Naftogaz” buy our gas from European consumers at a higher price. We thought, “Naftogaz” in the second half already overpaid somewhere in the $70 million It is a purely economic loss “Naftogaz”, the Ukrainian consumers pay for gas more expensive price, it is the policy”, — the Minister said in an interview with NTV television.

The head of the Ministry noted that during the meeting on 9 December in Brussels tripartite negotiations between representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the EU, the Ukrainian side expressed readiness to buy the 1.5–4 billion cubic meters of gas and Gazprom confirmed the readiness to start the supply of gas, “as soon as we get the money.” However, it is the payment failed to agree, despite the fact that the European Commission was agreed that the proposed “Gazprom” prices “normal”.

“We are faced in the process of negotiating with “Naftogaz” not willing today to pay for prepaid gas supplies,” said Novak.

The Minister stressed the danger of the situation in conditions when before the beginning of the colder compared to the previous winter, “Naftogaz” has pumped into underground storage of gas is much less than that required for the autumn-winter period.

“This year, colder in winter, the selection of gas from UGSF [underground gas storages] Ukraine began 14 days earlier than usual. This means that residues in UGS decline faster on today’s date the remains to approximately 2 billion cubic meters, lower than usual. If there are low temperatures in January or February, you will need more amount of gas to Ukrainian consumers, industrial consumers, housing and communal services, gas, which will rise from the reservoirs, will not be enough,” said Novak.

In mid-November of 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned about the threat of unauthorized siphoning by Kiev of the Russian gas supplied to Europe.

Previously, the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” has assured its customers that existing gas reserves will be enough for the successful passing of winter.
