The Pechersky district court of Kiev at the request of the military Prosecutor sanctioned the detention of the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. About this on his page in social network Facebook announced the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko.
According to him, the court held a closed trial and gave permission for the detention of Yanukovych in order to ensure his presence during the hearing of the petition on application of preventive measure in the form of detention.
“[Pechersky regional court of Kiev… – .] set satisfy the request and grant permission for the detention of the suspect Yanukovych,” — wrote Lutsenko.
Previously, on 10 December Lutsenko promised early next year to show Yanukovich charged with treason and the trial to proceed. According to him, the pre-trial investigation to be completed in the “coming months.”
Viktor Yanukovych is currently in Russia, so in late November, Lutsenko read out a notice on suspicion of treason during a video conference with the Rostov regional court. In his address to Yanukovych, Lutsenko said that the former President is suspected of aiding the authorities of Russia, in the intentional action to change the territorial boundaries of the country, waging “aggressive war” in violation of the Constitution.
