The official representative of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the murder of the Russian Ambassador in Turkey is beneficial for those who want to prevent the development of bilateral relations between Moscow and Ankara. He said this to journalists, reports TASS.

“It (the murder of the Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov. —) beneficial to those who want to drive a wedge between Russia and Turkey, to prevent the normalization of relations between Russia and Turkey, both bilaterally and [for normalization] of those relations, which allow to intensify and unite efforts towards the Syrian political settlement,” — said the press Secretary of the head of state.

Peskov stressed that the murder of the Ambassador is “an extraordinary tragedy and provocation”, which aimed to destroy the relations between Russia and Turkey.

“In this case, the only reason that can make our country and Turkey against the background of such provocations, is to become closer and become more efficient in cooperating against those who are behind this provocation,” — said Peskov, adding that the investigation into the murder of the Ambassador will be the investigators who have arrived in Ankara.

Putin’s press Secretary also said that the night before, December 19, during a telephone conversation the Russian leader and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to cooperate in the investigation.
