US senators have promised to toughen sanctions against Russia

As writes the newspaper The Hill, democratic Senator Ben Cardin said that in January he will introduce a bill on “comprehensive advanced sanctions” against Russia, which the US accused of meddling in the electoral process.

“The Executive has taken action, but it is imperative that the legislative branch of government supported the initiative and moved forward. Legislative sanctions can complement and enhance the new sanctions Executive”, — he said.

Republicans John McCain and Lindsey Graham called the actions of the Obama administration’s “long overdue” and promised to develop more stringent legislative penalties in 2017.

The speaker of the house of representatives Republican Paul Ryan said that the decree of the President Obama was “late” and these measures should have been taken earlier.

Democrat mark Warner said that the intervention of Russia will get “stable response” both from legislators and from the administration of Donald trump.
