The United States has spent $3.4 billion in response to the “Russian provocation”

The U.S. government spent about $3.4 billion to protect its allies in response to “Russian provocation”, said at a press conference the head of the US State Department John Kerry.

“We support a democratic Ukraine and, responding to Russian provocation, assisted our allies in Northern and Central Europe,” Kerry said.

He added that the $3.4 billion was needed to help countries to ensure their security and to build a defense.

Earlier Kerry during his recent message to US President Barack Obama said that “reset” of relations between Moscow and Washington in 2009-2013 gave “tangible benefits” in the control of nuclear weapons, as well as “supply route supplies” for American soldiers in Afghanistan. He noted that the US and Russia “has retained the ability to work together” in the common interest “in certain areas”. As examples of Kerry led negotiations on coordination in the Arctic and reduction of Iran’s nuclear program.

However, at the same time, he stressed that the parties remain difficulties and disagreements in certain issues. U.S. Secretary of state said that “the challenge for bilateral relations” is “a military intervention [in Russia] in Syria,” and “unprecedented Russian cyber attacks.”

“In light of Russian aggression in Ukraine, we must lead the international community to support the Ukrainian people and to impose sanctions against Russia for its illegal actions”, — said Kerry.
