Obama has extended for one year sanctions against Russia

President Barack Obama has extended for one year the anti-Russian sanctions imposed in connection with the situation around Ukraine. This is stated in the documents published on 13 January on the White house website.

In particular, in his letter to the speakers of both houses of Congress, Obama notifies that “it is necessary to continue the emergency [sanctions] situation” and taken in connection with this action in accordance with the Executive order 13660 of March 6, 2014 due to events in Ukraine, and in accordance with subsequent orders that extended sanctions against Russia.

“The actions and policies which have been adopted, these ordinances continue to pose unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the USA”, — stated in the documents. “So <…> and I extended for one year declared a state of emergency in accordance with the order 13660.

Similar regimes Obama extended to Iran, Cuba, Libya, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, and the “terrorists who threaten to disrupt the peace process in the middle East”, to the letter.
