One of the sources said that the Obama administration has informed Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak on new sanctions for an hour before the decision was made public.

The official representative of the trump confirmed only one phone conversation held on 29 December between Flynn and Kislyak. Thus, according to him, sanctions are not discussed.

Reuters sources stressed that it did not know who was the initiator of these calls. On the content of these conversations, they also know nothing. One source suggested that Moscow, most likely, wanted to understand what he thinks the team trump on new sanctions.

Meanwhile, state Department spokesman mark Toner said Friday that Washington “sees no problems in contacts between the members of the new administration and foreign officials”.

Reuters also quoted a representative of the Russian Embassy in Washington, Alexei Mosin. “The Embassy does not comment on the contacts, which are carried out on a daily basis with local partners,” he said.

December 29, the Obama administration imposed new sanctions against Russia over its alleged interference in the election of the President of the United States.
