The Ministry of defence of the United Kingdom hid the fact the failed launch of solid-fuel ballistic missiles Trident in June 2016. About it reports The Sunday Times citing a source in the naval service of great Britain.
According to him, the Trident II D5 missile, capable of destroying millions of people, was released from a British submarine Vengeance off the coast of Florida that strayed off course and flew toward the American coast. Fortunately, during the test, the missile was not carrying nuclear warheads, the source said. What was the cause of the incident, he did not elaborate, saying only that the fault manifested itself after the missile was launched from under the water.
“After the first four years of nuclear testing ended in disaster, the panic was at the highest level. In the end, Downing street has decided to hide the fact of failure. They knew what damage it would cause to our authority, if the information was revealed”, — said the interlocutor of the edition.
According to the newspaper, the incident occurred just weeks before the vote in the House of representatives of the British Parliament about the fate of ballistic missiles Trident. Then, as specifies the edition, the UK Ministry of defence has not released details about the launch, saying only that he was successful.
According to the Sunday Times, in order to report the incident to the House of representatives will be called British defense Secretary Michael Fallon.
In July 2016, parliamentarians supported the modernization program of the Trident, the cost of which is 31 billion pounds ($38 billion).
