The media learned about the change of governing negotiations with Russia Japanese diplomats


The government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe intends to update the team of diplomats in charge of negotiations with Russia on the issue of the Northern territories. It is reported by Japanese newspaper Asahi.

According to the publication, first of all, we are talking about the Japanese diplomat Tikahito Harada, who was the Ambassador of Japan in Russia from 2011 to 2015. Recently, he participated in consultations on the issue of concluding a peace Treaty between the two sides. Harada 65 years old, he should retire.

The newspaper writes that his position is the Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Japan Takeo Akiba, who is considered an expert in international law.

In addition, the Japanese foreign Ministry intends to achieve changes within the Department. In particular, the planned change of the head of the Department of Europe and the head of the Russian Department, which is within the Department.

The paper relates the coming changes in the Japanese foreign Ministry on a visit to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, which took place in mid-December, 2016.

Then during the talks, Putin and Abe signed agreements on economic cooperation, elaboration of joint economic activities on the Kuril Islands, was the beginning for easing the visa regime between the countries.

However, according to a survey in Japan, 54% of the respondents negatively assessed the results of the negotiations. During the preparation of the visit it was expected that Putin and Abe will take important decisions on the conclusion of a peace Treaty between the two countries and on ways of resolving the problem of the Kuril Islands territorial disputes belong to Japan.
