The office of the UN high Commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) and the international organization for migration (IOM) appealed to the administration of U.S. President Donald trump with a call to stop accepting refugees. This is with reference to the statement by agencies according to Reuters.
“The needs of refugees and migrants around the world has never been more [than now]. The program of resettlement of people fleeing war and persecution, it is of vital importance,” the statement says.
IOM and UNHCR noted that it continues to rely on cooperation with the United States in providing asylum to those in need. “We firmly believe that refugees deserve protection and assistance in resettlement, regardless of their religion, nationality or race,” reads the statement.
According to UNHCR, from October 2016 USA accepted about 25 thousand refugees.
