The Rosselkhoznadzor has banned imports of beef from New Zealand

The Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a ban on deliveries to Russia of beef from New Zealand, said the representative of the Minister Yulia Melano. The ban comes into force from February 6.

In a few words explained that the ban was imposed due to detection of ractopamine in meat (substance used as a feed additive to increase muscle mass).

In addition, she said, the Agency is exploring the possibility of ban on import of chilled fish for the detection of mercury. The decision to this effect, the Ministry will within two weeks.

In October last year, the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert made a ban on the import of these products. Then he noted that often the products do not conform to veterinary requirements and stressed that the Agency will consider the “necessity of imposing restrictions on a number of products or certain types”.
