Putin signed the law on decriminalization battery


The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the amendments decriminalizing family a beating. The corresponding document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

By “beating” the signed law refers to actions “causing physical pain, but not entailed consequences.” If such assault was committed for the first time, they are transferred from the category of criminal offences into the category of administrative offences. The second and subsequent cases of domestic violence remain criminal offences.

Earlier, on January 27, the amendments in the third final reading adopted in the state Duma. In support of the amendments voted 380 of parliamentarians and only three voted against it. The deputies rejected the amendments that were left in the criminal code the penalty for beating pregnant women and children. The Federation Council approved the amendments on February 1.

Under article 5 of the Russian code of criminal procedure the close relatives are spouses, parents, children, adoptive parents, adopted children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren.
