At the Congress of the United democratic movement “Solidarity” February 12, Sunday in Moscow was re-elected governing bodies. In Federal political Council of the organization consisted of 19 persons, including Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr., Sergei Davidis, Vadim Prokhorov, Alexander Ryklin, Ilya Yashin. The delegates adopted a statement in support of Alexei Navalny in presidential elections of 2018.
Speaking at the Congress, Navalny responded to a question from the audience about the attitude of the Federal program desovietization. The opposition leader said that no special program for “demolition of monuments and renaming of streets” in Russia is not needed.
“JSC “Desovietization”, Federal program “Desovietization”, which will spend several million roubles from the budget — it’s not necessary, he explained. — All questions about the demolition of monuments and renaming of streets is a local issues”.
The politician also promised that if the primaries with his participation will happen and he’ll lose, he would support the winning candidate. “If I lose the primaries, then, of course, will support the candidate who won them, including and [LDPR leader Vladimir] Zhirinovsky,” — said the politician. He added that he does not doubt in his victory in the primaries, although the prospect of his participation in them he considers “fiction”.
After the speech, the Bulk of delegates of the movement of regions voted to support him in the presidential election (35 in favor, two against, three abstained). The participants of the “Solidarity” declared that support for the admission to the election of the opposition candidates.
Delegates also addressed the TFR with a request to intensify the investigation into the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov, and PACE with the requirement to prepare a special report on the case.
According to Yashin, the movement will declare “spring call” for the organization’s expansion and development of regional offices.
During the Congress to join the “Solidarity” members said PARNAS, who left her last year because of a conflict with the party leader, Mikhail Kasyanov. Among them: Prokhorov, Yashin, Mityushkina, Novosibirsk politician Egor Savin and others.
On his way out of PARNASSUS they said in December last year. Yashin accused Kasyanov that “in just six years has led PARNASSUS to a complete collapse”. The state Duma elections in 2016, the party received less than 1%. Kasyanov also criticized for attracting to the campaign in Saratov populist-nationalist Vyacheslav Maltsev.
Failure PARNAS was preceded by a split in the Democratic coalition in April of last year. Associates Alexei Navalny and Vladimir Milov left electoral coalition with the party PARNAS after a dispute about how to conduct primaries. Despite this earlier Kasyanov still admitted the possibility of his own nomination for the presidential election. About presidential ambitions also said the co-founder of the “Yabloko” Grigory Yavlinsky and LDPR leader Zhirinovsky.
On 8 February a court found Navalny guilty in the case of “Kirovles” and sentenced to five years probation. By law, citizens sentenced to imprisonment for serious crimes (which include imputed opposition embezzlement in especially large size), are not eligible to participate in the election within ten years after withdrawal or cancellation of conviction. Supporters of Navalny said that the ban on the nomination contrary to the Constitution and expressed willingness to enter the electoral campaign even in the new circumstances.
