The Governor of Ryazan region has resigned


The Governor of Ryazan region Oleg Kovalev gave the President a statement on early resignation. The corresponding statement the head of the region was published on the website of the government of the Ryazan region.

On his decision to Kovalev said at a meeting of the regional government. The head of the region said that he would not nominate his candidacy in the gubernatorial elections in September 2017.

According to Kovalev, the reason for this decision was the complete all tasks that were set before him by the President. “As a result of our joint work during these years in the Ryazan region there have been major positive changes, I would say, dramatically,” — he stressed.

Kovalev said that he had submitted a letter of resignation in the name of Vladimir Putin just over a week ago. However, he noted that he did not know exactly when it will be reviewed by the head of state. Kovalev thanked the government members for their cooperation and promised to continue to help the region even after leaving office.

Oleg Kovalev was appointed head of the Ryazan region in 2008. Later on direct elections in 2012, he was re-elected for a second term.

Earlier, on 13 February, Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the Governor of the Novgorod region Sergey Mitin. The former head of the region announced his resignation on the morning of 13 February. He stated that he will not go to the fall elections, and asked the President “to give him a new assignment.”
