Russia does not intend to return Crimea to Ukraine. About this during the briefing said the official representative of the MFA of Russia Maria Zakharova.
“My territory is not returned. Crimea is the territory of the Russian Federation,” she said (quoted by “Interfax”).
So Zakharova commented on the statement by the press Secretary of the White house Sean Spicker that at the briefing on February 14 said that the President of the United States Donald trump expects Russia’s assistance to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine and return the Crimea to Ukraine.
The statement of the earlier Spicer commented the Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, who called the talk about the alienation of Crimea a violation of the territorial integrity of Russia.
During the presidential campaign, trump said that, in his opinion, the people of Crimea “would prefer to be with Russia, but not where he was before,” and confirmed his intention to consider recognition of Crimea as part of Russia in case of victory in the elections. He also said that the attempt by the US force to return the Crimea to Ukraine could lead to world war III.
Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum held in March 2014. His results did not recognize the Western countries and Ukrainian authorities consider joining the Crimea to Russia’s annexation.
