The Chairman of the joint chiefs of staff of the Armed forces, U.S. General Joseph Dunford, and chief of the General staff of the Russian Armed forces Valery Gerasimov will meet on Thursday, February 15, in Baku. This was reported in Twitter of the American joint Committee.
At the meeting the sides plan to discuss “a wide range of issues.” In particular, commanders will have to raise the topic “serial communication” between the military of both countries for “prevent failures”.
In 2014, Washington had sent Moscow a notification stating that the American side in connection with the events in Ukraine suspends military cooperation with Russia. Since personally the chief of the General staff and chiefs of staff of the Armed forces of the United States are not met.
In late October, the United States, Russia and the USA signed the Memorandum on safety issues in Syria. The document implies the establishment of channels – communication between the military authorities of Russia and the USA. The Memorandum also defines the mechanism of interaction, including mutual assistance in the event of emergency situations.
At the beginning of the Russian operation in Syria, the Pentagon said Moscow’s actions alarmed Washington because it was launched without a preliminary military talks.
