Russia does not officially accused of violating the Treaty on intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF), said press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov. So the representative of the Kremlin commented on the previously released New York Times article that Russia is “secretly” posted on his site the efficient division of cruise missiles.
“No one has officially accused Russia of violating the INF. You mentioned some information, absolutely impersonal,” — said Peskov told reporters (quoted by TASS).
He added that Russia “was and remains committed to its international obligations”, including in the framework of the INF Treaty.
In his article the NYT refers to the source in administration of the President of the United States. As he wrote the publication, it cruise missiles, land-based, on testing which in 2014 was declared by the Obama administration. The article also says that Russia has two divisions cruise missiles, one of which is at the Kapustin Yar in the Astrakhan region, and the other moved in December from this site on an operational base “somewhere else” in the country.
The material of the newspaper had earlier commented on the Russian foreign Ministry, stating that the accusations are unfounded in nature. The Ministry added that do not take them seriously.
In turn, the U.S. state Department on 15 February said that Russia continues to violate its obligations under the contract.
“We very clearly given to understand our concerns violations by Russia, the risk they pose to the security of Europe and Asia, as well as our great concern that Russia has returned to the performance of the contract”, — said in a statement, acting state Department spokesman Mark Toner. According to him, the US continues to analyze violations of the INF Treaty “to assess the potential consequences for the security of the United States and its allies and partners.”
The INF Treaty was signed in 1987. According to the document, the parties are prohibited from having ballistic missiles, land-based and cruise missiles with a range of from 500 up to 5,5 thousand km.
