Russian President Vladimir Putin has promoted a number of Russian generals. The corresponding decree was published on Wednesday, February 22, on the website of the Kremlin.
Among the military, newly promoted, were those who participated in the operation in Syria. The ex-commander of the Russian group in Syria, Lieutenant-General Alexander Zhuravlev, head of the National centre of defence, Lieutenant General Michael Mezentsev became the General-colonels.
Deputy head of main operational Department of the General staff Sergey Rudskoy Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov, who represented Russia at the talks on Syria in Astana, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. Himself Lieutenant-General rudskoy also got a promotion — he became Colonel-General
The commander of distant aircraft the General-major Sergey Kobylash awarded the rank of Lieutenant General.
New titles were also employees of the emergencies Ministry, interior Ministry, Investigative Committee, Regardie and customs authorities.
In the spring of 2016, the media learned about the award of the chief of the General staff of the Russian Armed forces Valery Gerasimov, Deputy defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov the title of Hero of Russia. According to the publication, posthumously the title of Hero of Russia was awarded to the former head of the main intelligence Directorate of the General staff Igor Sergun, who died 4 Jan.
In mid-February on the website of public procurement was posted information about the conduct of the Ministry of defense tender for supply of Agency awards to combatants in Syria. In particular, the conditions of the auction suggested order of 20 thousand medals “Participant of military operations in Syria”, and also medals “For the clearance of Palmyra” and “For the liberation of Palmyra” (50 pieces). Later the Department stated that the government order was posted on the website of the Unified information system by mistake.
