Russia is not going to attack Japan, placing armed forces on the Kuril Islands. This was announced by the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Ozerov, reports “RIA Novosti”.
According to him, Russia will station its armed forces on its territory “where necessary”. He stressed that the country may deploy military force where it sees fit, if it does not violate international law. “And in this case, no such violations”, — he said.
Earlier in the day, Tokyo has sent Moscow a note of protest over plans to partition Russia in the Kuril Islands division. The Secretary-General of the Japanese government Yoshihide Suga has expressed the view that such behavior is incompatible with the position of the authorities of the country.
However, lake found that Japan’s claims are unfounded.
“These protests at least inappropriate, they have no international legal grounds. With the same success you can expect from US that they will withdraw its naval base from Okinawa. Let them do, and then we’ll see about the division in the Kuril Islands”, — the politician said.
Ozerov stressed that Russia is ready to cooperate with Japan, including in the military sphere, in the sphere of combating terrorism and “the theft of marine biological resources”.
Suga, commenting on Moscow’s plans, stated that this issue will be discussed during the meeting of Ministers of foreign Affairs and defence of the two States.
At the parliamentary hour in the state Duma on February 22 the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu told about the location of the division in the Kuril Islands this year. In addition to division on the Kuril Islands, the troops will be located in the West and South-West of the country.
