As reported by broadcaster CNN, citing sources in the Washington administration, possible appointment to the American Embassy in Moscow with Huntsman discussed the state Secretary Rex Tillerson and people from the nearest environment of the trump. According to TV channel, the former Governor of Utah could talk and the President himself.
Earlier in the week, CNN reported that Huntsman was considered among the contenders for the post of Ambassador. Other candidates were not mentioned.
A native of California Huntsman even under Ronald Reagan worked in the White house. He then worked in the Commerce Department, where he was responsible for relations with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
In 1992, under George Bush senior Huntsman became the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore. In 2009, after the governorship in Utah, he was Ambassador to China. There he had a disagreement with the local authorities, who suspected the diplomat in support of anti-government protests (the so-called “Jasmine revolution.”
Currently, the U.S. Ambassador in Moscow is John Tefft, who took the post in July 2014. He was succeeded in this post, Michael McFaul, has officially left the Russian capital for family reasons.
