Medvedev approved the national strategy for women

The government adopted the national strategy for women in the years 2017-2022. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, published on the website of the Cabinet.

This strategy defines the main directions of the state policy towards women and focused on the implementation of the principle of equal rights and freedoms of men and women and equal opportunities for their realization by women in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, generally recognized principles and norms of international law and international treaties of the Russian Federation, the document says.

The strategy will be implemented in two stages. In the first stage, thrilling 2017-2018, it is planned to develop mechanisms for its implementation: information-analytical, legal and personnel maintenance of the state policy in the interests of women, explained in documents. In the second stage, designed for 2019-2022 years, provides for the implementation of measures for the advancement of women in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres.

The draft strategy developed by the Ministry of labour and social protection, was submitted to the government on February 10. Its main areas are improving the economic situation of women, ensuring their well-being, increase women’s participation in public and political life and in decision-making, prevention of violence against women, as well as overcoming stereotypes about the social roles women and men.

In late February, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said that in Russia there is discrimination against women in terms of wages. According to Golodets, the average wage for women is only 73% of the average wage of men, while the education level of women is higher.
