Constitutional court of South Korea upheld the decision of the Parliament on the impeachment of President Park Geun-Hye because of a corruption scandal involving her friends, according to Reuters.
This decision means that Park Geun-Hye should immediately leave the official presidential residence in Seoul, where she continued to remain even after the Parliament passed the decision on impeachment.
The Parliament of South Korea announced the impeachment of the President on 9 December. The President was suspended from his duties until the owl will make a decision by the constitutional court.
Park Geun-Hye will become the first democratically elected leader of South Korea which prematurely leaving his post, said Reueters. According to the Constitution, presidential elections must be held within 60 days.
Political scandal in South Korea has erupted after it became known that the President admitted to the secret documents, his girlfriend Choi sung-SIL, thus violating the country’s Constitution and other laws. A friend of the President also suspected that she extorted money from major Korean companies, making the transfer of large amounts of associated funds.
The Park Geun-Hye said ready to resign if the Parliament vote for impeachment.
