Putin discussed with the security Council sanctions of Ukraine against Russian banks


President Vladimir Putin held an operational meeting with members of the security Council, which discussed the development of the situation in Ukraine. About it the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said .

“First and foremost it was about the sharp aggravation of the situation after the imposition of total blockade [of Donbass] from Kiev,” — said Peskov. Such actions of Kiev is aimed at “the rejection region” and “lead to further escalation of tension.” In addition, the meeting discussed the situation around subsidiary companies of Russian banks, “which have become victims of the sanctions policy by the Ukrainian authorities.”

Speaking of cargo blockade of Donbass, Russia believes that she’s “going to failure” perspectives of implementation of the Minsk agreements, noted Peskov.

However, no decision on the blockade of Ukraine’s Donbass and sanctions against Russian banks was taken. “While Russia is concerned about this, because neither fostered an environment suitable for the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Peskov said.

However, the consequences of such actions on the part of Ukraine will be analyzed in Moscow. “The seriousness of the situation requires us to be extremely careful,” added the spokesman.

In the security Council meeting was attended by its permanent members: the Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko, state Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the presidential Administration Anton Vaino, security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov and Director of the foreign intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin.

On the question of why at the security Council meeting was not the Chairman of the government Dmitry Medvedev, Peskov noted that “due to his work schedule”.

Earlier, on 15 March, the national security Council and defense of Ukraine on the proposal of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took the decision to suspend cargo traffic with the self-proclaimed DND and LNR. On the eve, March 16, Poroshenko has approved the proposal of the national Bank of Ukraine to impose sanctions against five banks with Russian state capital for a period of one year.
