Turkey’s decision to modify the conditions of import of Russian grain can lead to complete cessation of the supply of agricultural products. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of agriculture Alexander Tkachev.
“The adoption Ankara such decisions can lead to complete cessation of the importation in Turkey of a number of names of Russian agricultural products (wheat, maize, crude sunflower oil, sunflower meal, beans and rice)”, — transfers words of the Minister, the press service of the Ministry.
The Ministry of agriculture stressed that Turkey’s actions questioned “the sincerity of the intentions on building a lasting relationship.”
Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich in a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Mehmet Sensecam also stressed that restrictions on the supply of Russian grain to hinder the restoration of full relations between the two countries. “The actions of the Turkish side against Russian suppliers of wheat, corn, sunflower oil and sunflower meal, contrary to the spirit and outcome of March 10 meeting in Moscow of the Council of high level cooperation under the leadership of the presidents of Russia and Turkey” — quoted Dvorkovich TASS.
Turkey March 15 suspended the issuance of licenses for duty-free supplies of wheat, corn and sunflower meal from a number of countries, including from Russia. Shipment of this product from Russia virtually stopped.
As reported by the General Director of the Institute for agricultural market studies (IKAR) Dmitry Rylko, the Russian wheat under the new conditions would be subject to a duty of 130%. If such a “prohibitive duty” supply “may not be,” said ICARUS.
Turkey is the second after Egypt buyer of Russian wheat for July 2016 — February 2017, the country imported almost 2 million tons of wheat from Russia. The volume of purchases of Russian corn Turkey occupies fourth place in 2016, the country had sent about 1 million tonnes.
